Thursday, December 9th, 2010 @ 3:31pm - ultimate music post: updated

Hi guys!
I've updated the Ultimate Music Post with a bunch of new links and added a new feature so you know when the links were updated last.

Some new additions to the post include:
Color Outside The Lines & I Do (Wanna Love You) from the U.S. Edition of The Show Must Go
Go With The Show (Live CD/DVD) tracks.

Plus I refreshed all the links to their albums and some of the bonus tracks/pre-Idol demos.
Working on getting it all updated since it seems we get a lot of search-engine hits on it.

Oh and as a bonus, I've uploaded them to mediafire. So they'll never expire!

Friday, March 19th, 2010 @ 6:00pm - trial by fire

If you're a rock band preparing to embark on the biggest tour of your career, playing a triple-shot of shows at the Olympics is about the best preparation one could hope to have.

Vancouver rock act Hedley, whose 20-date tour to support its third album, The Show Must Go, recently played a trio of high-profile Olympic gigs, including the closing ceremonies.

For frontman Jacob Hoggard, 25, it was the best possible rehearsal for Hedley. "Prior to those, we hadn't played a show in about seven months, so it was trial by fire," Hoggard said from his home in Vancouver. "But it whipped us into shape."

Hoggard expects there will be a slight ebb on the upcoming tour, at least compared to the Olympics. But the group -- which also includes bassist Tom MacDonald, guitarist Dave Rosin and drummer Chris Crippin -- has taken the necessary showbiz steps to make its trek through a string of hockey arenas one to remember.

"We've always tried to put on a show that's larger than the room we are in."

Hoggard is living a rosy existence in 2010, but most of 2009 was so bad that he felt "like a walking country song."

A bad breakup with his longtime girlfriend (the pair owned a house in Abbotsford together) was only the beginning. He lost his driver's licence (too many speeding tickets) and with his back against the wall, Hoggard had no choice but to move back to his parents' house.

"The psychological pressure alone was staggering sometimes. You have to be careful not to be a masochist and enjoy the pain for the end result of being able to perform. But it ends up being both one thing and another. The reason you're performing ends up being what the problem is, and it perpetuates."

Hedley is nominated at this year's Juno Awards for Group of the Year and Pop Album of the Year, which puts them in competition with acts like Michael Bublé and the Tragically Hip.

The band is nearing the upper crust in Canada, but Hoggard said he's trying to keep his ego in check. The former bad-boy of Canadian pop is, in fact, also trying to be a responsible adult.

"The impetus behind the album, and calling it The Show Must Go, was acknowledging that there is a difference between being a performer and a person. It isn't always healthy for those two worlds to mingle all the time."

Friday, March 19th, 2010 @ 5:50pm - Hedley Are OK With Cougars

from CHARTattack

It's safe to assume Hedley won't join Ashton Kutcher on any upcoming cougar-hunting escapades.

Although their "Don't Talk To Strangers" video is a spoof on 40-something femme fatales on the prowl, none of the guys in the band have actually had to deal with an aggressive, "experienced" woman.

That may be for the best. One time I saw a cougar throw a milky alcoholic drink in a friend's face because he wouldn't dance with her. Embarrassing? Yes. Awesome? You bet.

CHARTattack had chance to talk to Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard over the phone from Etobicoke. Not surprisingly, the band were promoting the hell out of their new The Show Must Go album, a forthcoming Canadian tour and filling up the days with TV appearances and radio interviews, with a little sleep thrown in for good measure.

Now that the record is out, Hoggard is thrilled to be making the rounds again. He's eager to talk about the group's singles, videos, and whatever other trash we could throw at him.

Here's how it went downCollapse )

Thursday, March 26th, 2009 @ 4:42pm - Hedley Releases 'Never Too Late' Album On May 19th In The USA + The Juno Awards.

Fontana International is poised to reveal Canada’s best kept music secret to fans stateside. On May 19th, Canadian Pop/Rock sensation, HEDLEY, will unleash their US exclusive masterpiece, NEVER TOO LATE. This US debut includes, among others, HEDLEY’s 7 consecutive #1 singles from their two double platinum Canadian releases: HEDLEY (2005) and FAMOUS LAST WORDS (2007).
The majority of the songs on NEVER TOO LATE were produced by Greig Nori (Sum 41); Brian Howes (Hinder, Daughtry) produced “321,” “On My Own,” and “Trip” and GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Rise Against, Red Hot Chili Peppers) takes production credit for “Gunnin’.”

In three short years, HEDLEY has reached superstar status in Canada:
two double platinum albums, seven consecutive #1 singles, and seven #1 videos
#2 on Nielsen’s 2008 year end BDS Top 10 Artist Airplay with 88,000 detections- just behind Rihanna with 91,000, and surpassing other Canadian superstars such as Nickelback and Avril Lavigne
Swept 2009 Radio Music Awards: Song Of The Year, Chart Topper & Fan’s Choice Awards and are nominated nominated for 3 2009 JUNO Awards: Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Fan Choice Award. Won in all major categories at the Much Music Video Awards in 2008
Supported BON JOVI, the 3rd highest grossing touring band (following Rolling Stones and U2) , on a 12-date fall 2007 stadium tour, putting them in front of 200,000 people. Extensive headline and support touring with Nickelback, Sum 41, Yellowcard, 3 Days Grace, Finger Eleven, and many others
Nearly 1.5 million MySpace hits, more than 2.5 million song plays, and millions of YouTube hits and views
The HEDLEY story has ignited in the US virally and as a result of what started as unsolicited airplay at US stations along the Canadian border who recognized the demand for HEDLEY stateside.

“Old School,” HEDLEY’s 1st single from NEVER TOO LATE impacts at US POP & HOT AC radio 3/30. “Old School” has over 1 million views on YouTube, not of a music video, but simply scrolling lyrics to the song fast becoming the American prom and graduation soundtrack for 2009.

Thursday, March 26th, 2009 @ 4:01pm - Hedley's On The Cover ♥ CONFRONT Magazine // April 2009 Edition.

// Hedley Answers Fan Questions //

Uncontrollable shivers bordering on hypothermia is what comes to mind when I think of this past January 24th - spending more than 8 hours outside in minus 30 degrees Celsius weather will do that to a girl, especially one who is still more vain than she is willing to look like the abominable snowman in a snowsuit.   Yes it was cold, bitterly so, but nothing was going to keep me away from Crescent Street that Saturday afternoon … even if it was for an NHL All-Star Weekend event.

I’m no hockey fan, but I am a music fan and that evening, two of our favourite Canadian bands were taking the stage in the outdoor concert event of the season - granted, the ONLY outdoor event of the season … who in their right minds holds an outdoor concert, mid-January, in QUEBEC???? - during which headliners, Hedley, and opening act, The New Cities, would give a show like no other.

For the few who are unfamiliar with  the band, “Hedley is a Canadian pop punk band comprising lead singer Jacob Hoggard, who placed 3rd during the second season of the reality TV series Canadian Idol in 2004, Tommy Mac on bass, Dave Rosin on the guitar and Chris Crippin on drums. Their debut single “On My Own” reached number 1 on the Canadian Singles Chart and the follow-up “Trip” peaked at number 11. The singles “On My Own”, “321″, “Trip”, and “Gunnin’” topped the MuchMusic Countdown. Their last single off of the debut album, “Street Fight”, was successful on both the MuchMusic Countdown and the Canadian Singles Chart. Their first single from their new album “Famous Last Words”, “She’s So Sorry” achieved success on the MuchMusic Countdown.”  ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedley_(band)) On May 19th, 2009, the band will unleash their US exclusive masterpiece, NEVER TOO LATE.  This US debut includes, seven #1s from their two double platinum Canadian releases.

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 @ 11:42pm - Hedley in Victoria, July 2008

Finally got around to adding some pictures of their show in Victoria last summer to my Flickr! There are only a couple, but it was so freaking hot I only shot the first few songs.

More here at my Flickr. I'm always adding band photography so feel free to add.
